Zadok Preaches Love With His Debut EP, “Preacher Of Love”

Nigerian Idol recently birthed a music star, Zadok, who is fast becoming a household name, and gaining ground in the Nigerian music sphere. Having won hearts and placed second in the 2022 edition of the reality television show, Zadok has hit the ground running, touring, recording music, having rigorous press rounds, performing at various shows like the 2020 Felabration, and opening for Brymo at his Order Concert.

To showcase his musical range and artistry, the vocal powerhouse debuts with a stellar Extended Play titled, “Preacher of Love”.  The EP title is a nickname he gained during his memorable stint on Nigeria Idol as a result of his love-fueled performances every week. A&Red by Ogaga “Ogagus” Sakpaide, and majorly produced by DeeYasso, “Preacher of Love” is an arresting set about Zadok’s gospel of love.

Let’s take a ride through this cupid-influenced project. Don’t forget to plug in your earphones for the best experience.

Preacher Of Love EP review

This project is a collection of love-themed sounds with great potential to shake up the “Saturday industry” (rings the wedding bells). I can easily picture the white flowing gowns and tuxes swaying rhythmically to the songs on this project. If your partner loves words of affirmation and reassurance, then this is for them.

Preacher of Love opens with a lush piano on “You” which quickly shifts sonically to a dance anthem. On this first track, Zadok likened his lover’s beauty to the rising of the sun. One that can’t be hidden. He declares his unshakeable love for her. He wants to spend a lifetime with his lover. Who doesn’t? That’s the beauty of love itself- The longevity and companionship.

The first track leads into pop ear-candy “Aye”, the second track where Zadok promises to always be there for his lover. He promises to do anything to make his lover happy, regardless of the circumstances. This he delivers on a well arranged upbeat instrumentals.

On the third and fourth tracks, “Baby Mi”, with highlife/folk patterns, the singer spills words of affirmation on his lover, encouraging them not to pay attention to naysayers naysayers, mockers, and negative influences.

“Baby mi, dakun ma ṣe gbo t’elegan…”
My baby, please don’t listen to the mockers…

Closing with a power R&B ballad, The Preacher of Love, Zadok, pours out his emotions reaffirming that his love flows like a river. He personifies his love like a river, taking him back to his lover on its tides. This track is my favourite on the EP. The harmonic melodies, arrangement and production mirror the emotions as the singer delivers beautifully on each track.

spread the gospel of love as well
