This announcement leaves Ghana as the only African country to have hosted one of the world’s biggest Afrobeats festivals.

Prior to its cancellation, Afronation Nigeria 2023 was set to feature artists like Burna Boy, J Hus, Seyi Vibez, Flavour, and Black Sheriff. This lineup added to fans’ excitement, promising to deliver exceptional performances during the concert.

With the 2023 Afronation festival canceled, Nigerians are left with a Detty December that will be… well, not so detty.

Will Afronation Still Return to Nigeria?

As it stands, no official statements from Afronation confirm its return to Lagos, Nigeria. However, going by the press release above, the Afronation team still plans to bring the festival to Nigeria at a later date.

Some fans are still doubtful even with Afronation’s promises to return to Nigeria. This is because there were no ticket refunds for canceled Afronation concerts in the past. Ticket buyers were simply asked to hold on to their tickets for the next scheduled Afronation concert, with some as far as two years away.

However, the team promised to refund ticket costs this year, including booking fees. While this may have no significance, some people may interpret this to be a sign of no return to Nigeria.

Regardless, we remain hopeful that Afronation fulfills its promise to give us the dettiest of Decembers soon enough.
