Who is Ninety? I’m sure a larger percentage of those reading this right now have asked the same question.
Short Biography of Ninety
Ninety whose real name is Alabo Tuonims, a.k.a. Southern Gentleman, was born in February 1996 in Port-Harcourt. He moved to Lagos almost three years ago to pursue his musical career more intensely. He is formerly known as Ninety6, which about four percent of us might know. Creating a smooth blend infused with elements of Pop, R&B, Dancehall, and Reggae, Ninety identifies as an Afro-fusion artiste.
Ninety’s Music Career and Projects
His first single, “Unruly” was released on March 16, 2021. With soft, silky instrumentals, Ninety appreciates the unruly nature of his girl’s body. He also promises he’s willing to spend his resources on her.
“Touch and follow” was released on March 19, 2021. Ninety sure has a thing for girls who can make him spray his last card on them. This track seems to be a continuation of Unruly; she finally gets him on lock.
Ninety displays the rich control of his sound on the “Somebody” produced by Telz aka Funkula. One can feel the presence of Afrobeat elements fused with other instrumental experiments on this track. This track was released on the 6th of August, 2021.
His track “Piano” was also released in October 2021 and has a slower tempo compared to “somebody”. It is also his second most-streamed song on Spotify currently, with Touch and Follow at number 1. One can tell that Ninety’s releases in 2021 have a progressive pattern and also show his artistic versatility. The replay value of his songs is also worthy of note. Kudos to the producers and his vocal prowess.
Rare Gem- The EP
Ninety’s first single, “Diamonds,” off his EP, Rare Gem, was released on April 14th, 2022. This is a track that will have you on lock. This I promise because you can’t listen to it only once. With a melodious choral accompaniment and soft instrumental arrangements, he professes his love for his woman. It seems this girl finally has ninety in a love choke hold. He’s already planning for their future on this track. God when?
His EP “Rare Gem” was released on the 28th of April, 2022. The seven-track EP features a fusion of Amapiano, jazzy tunes, and choral melodies. The project amassed over a million streams across all platforms after two weeks of its release. Alongside the EP, he also released an NFT project for Rare Gem.
Ninety shows his versatility on this EP. “Hold my side”, the opening track with gentle strings and a mid-tempo pace, gives you an insight into the rest of the project. If the first song can hold you down, then the whole project will. He also explores an Amapiano sound on “Kiss and Tell”. The choral rendition of “Diamonds” adds more spice to the EP. “Wants and needs” is my personal favorite part of this project.
