On this week’s edition of top Soot weekly picks, we certainly had some fire songs that will make most rap enthusiasts excited. Amazing artists like Worlasi, E.L, and Odumodublvck certainly delivered on their commitment to bringing good music to the fans. As always, we’ll go into a quick review of each song, singling out the editor’s pick, and writers’ picks.
Mannywellz – Magic [Editor’s Pick]
On what feels like an LSD trip for the ears, Mannywellz dives right into a scintillating verse on Magic, our first top Soot weekly pick. The song is beautifully written and even more beautifully delivered. Mannywellz basically sings with a certain smoothness that can only be a result of hours of perfecting his craft.
Furthermore, Magic paints a steamy, intimate picture of Mannywellz and who I can only presume to be the lover he is obsessed with. The singer croons, “Take it easy baby, before I have your baby… You do that thing, we gon’ make magic.”
E.L – Chop Life
E.L wastes no time on Chop Life, he dives right in to let you know exactly what he’s about. “I only add bad chicks on snap, I’m not interested in chatting to boys.” This new song is fast and chiefly full of witty lyrics- every rap enthusiast’s dream. Additionally, E.L excitedly delivers his lines with short energy bursts. Bursts that keep you engaged from the start of the song to finish. To really get the nitty gritty on the work that went on behind the making of this song, you should certainly check out this exclusive interview we recently had with the phenomenal Ghanian rapper.
Mizzle & Odumodublvck – Too Sure
On another Mizzle and Odumodublvck banger, the opening lines of Too Sure are delivered with a certain flair only Mizzle can muster. Off Mizzle’s recently released EP “Now You Know”, Too Sure is already a crowd favorite. It’s no surprise it made it to our top Soot weekly picks.
After Mizzle’s verse, Odumodublvck comes in with an all too smooth flow and rhythm. Additionally, it blends in seamlessly with the laid back theme of the song. As expected, Odumodublvck spits lines that I’m sure put one or two rappers on their toes. This song is definitely my favorite from Mizzle’s EP, and for good reason.
Worlasi & David Hammond – Perfection
From Worlasi’s new “The.Rap.Y” album, Perfection is quite literally… perfection in this writer’s opinion. This new song exudes low key Caribbean and dancehall elements infused into a rap verse with perfect delivery. Scratch what I said in the previous paragraph, this is the song that will surely put rappers on their toes.
On the chorus, David Hammond chiefly does a fine job of giving us a melodious breather from Worlasi’s fire spitting verse. It’s not a very long chorus though. It ends just in time for Worlasi to start off with another smooth lyrical delivery. Finally, the cherry on top is the dialogue straight out of an 80s black and white movie I assume… “Whatever I do is never good enough… A perfectionist unfortunately. And perfectionists are miserable to deal with.”
Worlasi ft David Hammond – Luci
Finally, to end our top Soot weekly picks is another Worlasi and David Hammond collaboration. Without a doubt, this song will appeal to an audience that is both passionate about good melody and well-versed in meaningful lyricsm.
What I found most appealing was the backdrop of choristers who added an aura of sophistication (if you may) to Worlasi’s rap verse. However, don’t take my word for it, see for yourself.
