In the journey to creating the next set of pioneers and trend setters in the African music industry, The Music Business Academy for Africa has just announced the details of the much-awaited Music Business Academy Talent Project 2022. It will be in a thrilling partnership with The Orchard, the global arts and label services company. The Music Business for Africa started in 2017 as an internship scheme. Subsequently, it grew into a talent management training program and then into the full-blown music business education academy that we have today, which launched in 2020.
What is the Music Business for Africa Talent Project?
The Talent Project is one of the most exciting parts of the program that creates an avenue for African artists to share their music with the world. It also offers real-life practical situations for the students to learn with hands-on experience in the music industry. In 2021, the MBA for Africa offered this opportunity to five artists with the release of two EPs – Heart on a Sleeve, and Moments. This extended to teaching the students how to execute contracts, roll out plans, artist development and so much more. If you want to be a part of this program this year, it is not too late, you can still sign up here.
This year’s Talent Project will start at the beginning of September and end on the 16th of December 2022 when the EP from the Talent Project is set to be released. If you are an artist with a passion to pave your path in the music industry, this would be a great opportunity for you, you can sign up here and submit your music to http://www.mbatalentproject.com.
Who is The Orchard?
The Orchard is a subsidiary of Sony Music that offers a wide range of music distribution, sales, and marketing services. In this partnership with the MBA for Africa 2022, they are providing the funding to support the development of the seven artists that will be chosen from about thirty finalists. This covers song creation to release and also promotions and marketing for the EP.
In a press release, the Vice President for Africa at The Orchard, Bel Oldfield states:
“As the Orchard continues to grow its relationships across the African continent, it is essential that we lend support to the next generation of its emerging artists… giving them a chance to build their brand beyond language or geographical boundaries”.
The Music Business Academy for Africa 2022 is in partnership with Creative Industries Initiative for Africa & Music Ally. The academy is officially sponsored by YouTube Music.
