Soot Top Picks

Soot top picks

Will our weeks ever be complete without the anticipated Soot weekly top picks? Certainly not. Join us as we break down some of the hottest Afrobeats songs released within the previous week.

Zinoleesky – Many Things

About four days ago, Zinoleesky blessed the fans with Many Things, a song that takes on a more sober tune when compared to typical Zinoleesky songs. Many Things is many things (sorry I couldn’t resist)- Firstly, it’s a song that covers a range of themes from deep retrospection to some much needed motivation. Secondly, the groove gets you wherever you need to be.

This is the kind of song you play when you need a pick-me-up. You know those days when you need someone to give you a little push to continue your day? Well, Zinoleesky certainly captures that speech into this top pick… “Mama said you don’t need no interception. You are perfect because of your imperfection.”

Gyakie & JBee – Scar

This unexpected duo takes us on a mind trip with an authentic sound on this top pick, Scar. The first thing that came to mind on the first listen was… this would be a perfect soundtrack for a movie. As a matter of fact, Scar does tell a story of its own.

JBee delivers a smooth rap verse that paints pictures of regret and love lost… “then times I was tryna make sure you’re happy. I should’ve been getting focused on getting my pay.” After which Gyakie  soulfully sings about painfully  running around with a scar on her leg. I think Scar was beautifully written and if you’re sleeping on it… well, this is your sign not to.

Focalistic ft M.J, Xduppy, Shaunmusiq,& Ftears – Baja Ko Pele

On another classic Amapiano groove, Focalistic and a group of extremely talented artists put together what can only be described as a vibe on this top pick. While most Amapiano songs might sound similar, there’s no question about their authenticity. For Baja Ko Pele, I suggest you use the best headphones you’ve got to give you that truly immersive experience. I don’t know if the world is getting tired of Amapiano just yet. I for one, am not.

Wande Coal – Let Them Know

Off Wande Coal’s upcoming album “Legend Or No Legend”, Let Them Know grabs the listeners attention instantly. Produced by Kel-P, the song hangs between a mid-tempo party song and an alluring upbeat sound. Additionally, the top pick teases the ears and builds anticipation towards the upcoming album. Not going to lie, I’m certainly excited for the album.

Bad Boy Timz ft Zlatan – I Salute

From Bad Boy Timz’s album which is set to be released on the 25th of May, I Salute is a laid back tune that sounds like both artists had a lot of fun creating. While this particular duo is not often my usual go-to, I still enjoyed the melody.

The surprising Amapiano twist that subsequently comes in halfway through the song jolts you awake and will probably send you into a dancing frenzy. Furthermore, this duo made the log drums work regardless of how the song began and we just have to respect the brilliance in that.

This Zlatan feature brings us to the end of our weekly top picks. Is it just me or the song picks seem to be sticking to a particular genre? Last week, we had a lot of rap releases and this week, it seems like Amapiano took the cake. Wonder what next week’s new releases will be like? Stick around and watch our spaces to find out!
