Soot Africa's top weekly picks

Soot Africa’s Top Weekly Picks

This past week has certainly been one exciting week in terms of new releases. We’ve had new projects from wonderful artists like Rexxie, YKB, Zlatan, Bella Shmurda, and more. While it was a difficult one, we finally settled on Soot Africa’s top weekly picks in no particular order. Enjoy!

YKB – Bo Card (Things I Need)

Firstly, we’re starting off with a soft, slow, and melodic love song. After San Siro, YKB has given us another song that comes well appreciated. On Bo card, YKB particularly gives us a smooth hook in Yoruba with seamless delivery. One very surprising yet pleasing component of this song is how well the saxophone instrumentals especially blend with YKB’s vocals. Produced by Spaxx and Funwon, Bo Card also sounds like it’ll definitely find its place among many lovers … “And if you give me love mo dema bo card, cause you got the things I need, none of these niggas can be like me…”

Rexxie & Lojay – Asiko (Big Time)

Fresh off Rexxie’s new album, Asiko is a brilliant song that features Lojay. Need I say more about this top pick? Lojay did exactly what he was supposed to do on this track with a solid verse. It also shouldn’t come as a surprise that these two gave us steamy lyrics on Asiko. One line I haven’t been able to get out of my head though is “She tell me say she no kiss and tell, cause I go leave am for Eko Hotel.” I wonder who’s getting left at Eko Hotel this weekend. Hopefully, no one reading this!

BOJ – 2bad

Sing it with me… “My girlfriend is 2bad, my girlfriend is 2bad.”

On the next top pick, BOJ basically gives us a smooth and extremely catchy chorus in just two minutes and thirty seconds. This has a steady cadence that chiefly screams Nigerian house parties, slow night drives, and chill music. He wastes no time but dives straight into declaring how attractive his woman is and how she is certainly the life of the party. Ladies, if your man isn’t singing a song to tell the world how attractive you are, does he really love you?

Bella Shmurda – Ara (Ghen Ghen Tin)

This week’s new releases also gave us another Bella Shmurda classic on Ghen Ghen Tin. This Soot Africa’s top weekly pick is certainly good street Afrobeats in its finest form. This song is for clubs, streets, marketplaces, and anywhere with people looking for a classic Afrobeats song with more than enough call-and-response infusions. I’m not sure what Bella Shmurda says as most parts of the song are in Yoruba, but I know for sure he said at some point … “Make I no dey beg for food, make their arrow no touch me.” Roger that.

Pressure – Peruzzi ft. Fireboy DML

The first five seconds of this song basically gave me all I needed to fall in love with it… “Pressure, gbas gbos.” Pressure is a great song with upbeat drums and nostalgic piano sequences. This top pick is also everything you’d expect a Peruzzi and Fireboy DML song to sound like, and more. I already look forward to the next Peruzzi and Fireboy collab.

That’s it on this week’s Soot Africa’s top weekly picks. What new song did you enjoy the most this week? Let us know in our comment section!
