Hello Soot Africans! Long time no weekly top picks. If you’re a follower of the blog, then you know that we here at Soot Africa are dedicated to plugging you with the best new music to keep your playlist fresh at all times. If you’re here, it means you’re dying for something new to listen to, and we’ve got you. Welcome to Soot Africa’s top song picks. Let’s dive right in.
Sweet Life – BOJ, Ajebutter 22 X SDC
As a teaser from the new EP Make E No Cause Fight, Sweet Life is the crossover event we didn’t know we needed. The song is just a little taste of what the entire EP is about – chill, laid-back Afrobeats at its finest. On Sweet Life, BOJ, Ajebutter 22, and SDC share an uncanny vocal chemistry that I can bet is common throughout the EP. Run, don’t walk to add this to your playlist.
No Joke – Victony
No Joke is the second track on Soot Africa’s top song picks. If you know me, you know I love a good Victony single (not that I can think of any bad singles from Victony, though). However, No Joke is a little bit different from typical Victony. It employs several elements reminiscent of pop music, which I wouldn’t have expected from this vocal king. Additionally, even though No Joke sounds more like Western pop with some influences of African Alte, Victony delivers it well. Give it a listen:
Magician – Morravey X Davido
From her recently released EP, Davido’s new signee Morravey solidifies her presence in the music industry with Magician. On this track, Morravey plays around with an upbeat rhythm and a rather catchy tune to create something beautiful. Of course, Davido’s presence on this top song made it an even better listen. I have a feeling we’ll subsequently be seeing many more Morravey X Davido collaborations, and we’re here for it.
I Pray – KCee ft. Oxlade
When this song was still cooking in the studio, I was itching to listen to it. Now that it’s finally out, I can say I was not disappointed. In a much-needed KCee and Oxlade collab, the duo has certainly given us a vibe with I Pray. I must say, KCee is doing all he can to milk his signature Ojapiano tune using those flutes. While we’re still enjoying it for now, I’m sure the fans will want something different soon. But before that happens, enjoy this fresh new song, the fourth track on Soot Africa’s top song picks.
Away – Tar1Q
Finally, we’re ending our list with something from Tar1Q. Away was released as a part of his new EP All I Felt. Tar1Q’s vocals came out to play on Away, and I -as the GenZers would say- ate it up. He takes his time to deliver a heartfelt rendition that will certainly plug at your heartstrings. So, if you’re looking for something soft and sweet to kick off your day with, this song is definitely a top pick.
Sadly, that’s all we have for Soot Africa’s top song picks. If you enjoyed our selection, stick around and follow us on our social media to know when we drop our next top picks.
