Soot Africa Top Weekly Picks

It’s another week to decide what songs are good enough for our Soot Africa top weekly picks. You know, if there’s one thing about Soot Africa, it’s that we love a good music release. This week, we’ve had several. Here are our top picks from the numerous new songs African artists have given from all across the continent.

Sunflawa – Cheque & Crayon

Sunflawa gives us fresh new music from Cheque, and oh, how have we missed him? This Soot Africa top weekly pick reminded us how much we loved Cheque and his smooth, easy-going rhythm. The song also gave us a Cheque and Crayon collaboration we never knew we needed. Furthermore, Sunflawa is a mid-tempo love song that screams PDA on a white beach in Ibiza. I don’t know about you, but this song stays on my playlist for the next few weeks.

Everything – Mannywellz

Going by the Soot Africa top weekly picks so far, the memo for this week is soft, love songs that are catchy and easy to follow. On Everything, Mannywellz sings about giving his lover everything he can and still promises to be everything to the said lover. Additionally, Mannywellz’s vocals are clear on this track. He delivers with ease and a flirtatious aura that makes the song feel like a love song, even without paying too much attention to the lyrics.

Lock Up – Nonso Amadi X Zinoleesky

Yes, you read that right. Lock Up gives us a Nonso Amadi and Zinoleesky collaboration. This Soot Africa top weekly pick is another mid-tempo song that pulls you in with steady drum cadences and a catchy chorus. I appreciate how Zinoleesky’s sound was toned to match Nonso Amadi’s vocals. While this is an unexpected collab, it comes as a pleasant one.

Dog Eat Dog Remix – Odomodublvk ft Cruel Santino x Bella Shmurda

Whoever asked for a Dog Eat Dog remix certainly did everyone a favor. Because now, we have an even better version of this Odomodublvk classic. In a different tone from the original, this remix introduced more guitar riffs at the start, gently pulling in the listener and preparing them for Odomodublvk’s smooth delivery. Cruel Santino and Bella Shmurda added an extra kick to this Soot Africa top weekly pick with finely delivered verses, and overall, the remix turned out every bit as good as the original.

Wena – Choplife Soundsystem, Mr Eazi, & Ami Faku

From the recently released Chop Life Vol 1, Mr. Eazi teams up with Ami Faku on a somewhat nostalgic sound, Wena. You can certainly tell they had a lot of fun with the song, playing around with vocals, log drums, and mid-tempo amapiano infusions here and there. This Soot Africa top weekly pick is a three-minute and 15-second song that should’ve been way longer.

That brings us to the end of Soot Africa’s top weekly picks for the last week of May. So, let us know your favorite new releases in our comment section, and don’t forget to stay tuned for your daily music updates!
