Philip Kayode, also known as Pheelz, is a producer, singer, and songwriter of Nigerian descent. From “First of all” to “Finesse”, he managed to charm his way into the hearts of music lovers all over Africa and the world. His early career was primarily focused on the magic he made behind the soundboard in the studio, before he started gaining traction as a musician.
One of the first times he was on a track as a musician was on “I’m Going In” with Olamide in 2022. His early career as a producer was with the label YBNL, but he eventually broke off from the label to focus on a solo career. His debut EP “Hear me out” was released last year and, with his recent success on “Finesse”, is still making major waves on global charts.
Although Pheelz has gained a spotlight for his singing, we cannot forget all the hit songs he has produced in the past. Let us take a look at some of the top songs produced by Pheelz, in no particular order.
Champion – Fireboy ft D Smoke
Let’s start off with a good one. Champion was released in 2020, one of the most phenomenal songs off Fireboy’s second studio album “Apollo”. The song features American rapper and songwriter D Smoke, making waves on both local and international charts. Fireboy performed a medley of “Champion” and “Vibration” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in February 2021.
Shoki – Lil Kesh
Yes! Remember the 2014 banger from YBNL’s Lil Kesh? Pheelz was working behind the scenes on this one. He proved once again that his production could span anywhere from soft to street sounds. Shoki became not just an anthem but also a dance movement. Think we might still have this jam that gave us several dance moves? I think not.
Surrender – Mr. Eazi ft. Simi
What’s better than one great producer? Two great producers! Pheelz worked together with Juls and produced the romantic song from Mr. Eazi and Simi that makes us want to serenade our significant other and surrender it all to them. It was released as part of Mr. Eazi’s “Lagos to London” album.
Durosoke – Olamide
Another jam that had us on our feet. Durosoke was released in 2013 from Olamide’s “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth” album. What’s even more interesting? Pheelz is said to have produced all the songs on this album, except one. Pheelz came through with that jazzy Yoruba tempo that gets you in the groove. Talk about afrobeat at its finest. This song had two Headies nominations for the 2013 best rap single and song of the year.
Crown of clay – Vector & MI ft. Pheelz
I can’t help but notice how Pheelz’s sound production spans across such varying sounds, yet he delivers. If you ask me, I’ll say “Crown of Clay” featured not just two kings but three. Pheelz produced, and also performed on, one of the biggest rap songs of 2021. The collaboration was done shortly after the two rappers had settled a rap war that had them dropping diss track after diss track. Surprisingly, they not only ended their beef but also gave us this song to seal the deal.
Scatter – Fireboy DML
Fireboy’s debut album “Laughter, tears, and goosebumps” featured the song “Scatter”, one of the party songs that we can never get tired of. Pheelz did a good number on this one, with sublime sound production that takes the party goers where they need to be – on the dance floor.
Jore – Adekunle Gold ft Kizz Daniel
We have AG baby and boy Kizz Daniel on this one. “Jore” dropped about two years ago, a rather sweet and upbeat sound with, of course, Pheelz behind the board.
Billionaire – Teni
If you didn’t know this, “Billionaire” was an important song in Pheelz’s career. Why? Not only did it become an anthem for wannabe moneymakers all over the world, but it also won him his first Headies award for producer of the year in 2020.
First of all – Olamide
A little throwback to this banger from 2012… Olamide and Pheelz gave us an impressive record from the “YBNL” album that stayed at the top of the charts for a long time.
High – Adekunle Gold ft Davido
Did you think we had forgotten about this one? Think again. “High” was one of the most played summer jams of 2021. It topped the charts on many streaming platforms like Apple Music, Youtube, iTunes, and many others. It was an international sensation and we have Pheelz to thank as one of the geniuses who brought the song to life.
