Producer Spotlight: Ozedikus Nwanne, The Eclectic Sound god

If you’ve heard the phrase “Ozedikus Nwanne” at the start of any song, then you know who the subject of today’s discussion is. Ozedikus is a 25-year-old Nigerian producer and hitmaker. As an in-house producer for Mavin, his work has made it to the mainstream Afrobeats spotlight on several occasions. However, the young producer’s art has not always been as recognized as it is now.

Ozedikus’ love for music started at a really early age. As a teenager, he was just a pianist who played for several churches. In interviews with entertainment houses, he’d often reminisce about how his father was the one who originally urged him to take piano lessons. When it became clear that it was something he loved, he got better at it and eventually found himself as a music producer in a DIY studio called Much More Studio. There, he met artists like Crayon and Soft, eventually paving the way for his time meeting with Don Jazzy and his subsequent Mavins membership.

Eventually, Ozedikus honed his craft and focused on music production. Let’s look at a few hits Ozedikus Nwanne has given us, right from the moment he stepped into the spotlight up until now.

Rema’s Dumebi: Ozedikus’ Golden Goose

This was one of the songs that started it all for Ozedikus Nwanne as a mainstream producer. In an exclusive interview, he tells the story of how the song came to be and how he easily considered it one of his biggest songs at the time.

Ozedikus originally created the beat for Dumebi for someone else who apparently didn’t find it that appealing. But after Rema’s first listen, he suggested a remake of the beat to give what we got as the finished version.

Oxlade’s Ku Lo Sa

Need I mention how big of a hit this song is even so many months after its release? Ku Lo Sa hit international audiences when Oxlade released it for Colors Studios in June 2022. On a closer listen to the hit song, Ozedikus obviously had a lot of fun with the scattered drums, layered rims, and synth infusions.

Let’s take a brief look at how Ozedikus breaks down the elements of Ku Lo Sa.

Rema’s Woman: An Ozedikus X Altims Production

Yet another hit song that has Ozedikus’ magic fingers on the soundboard. Rema’s woman had no trouble making it to the top of the charts as it had two exceptional producers merge their arrangements to give a masterpiece. Woman basically had several dynamic production elements ranging from shakers to upbeat drums to prominent percussion instruments.

Take a look at how the two hit producers break down the making of Woman.

Other Songs Produced By Ozedikus Nwanne

The young producer has obviously solidified his place as a producer to reckon with. He has worked with several artists since his debut including Dr. Sid, Ladipoe, DNA Twins, Simi, Tiwa Savage, Blaqbonez… the list goes on.

  • Afro Jigga – Ladipoe
  • Iron Man – Rema
  • Balance – Simi
  • She Like Igbo – Blaqbonez
  • Kpano – Krayonthis

In an interview with Soundbetter, Ozedikus Nwanne recalls,

I always come up with original sounds and catchy melodies for the tracks I produce. I know how to produce tracks in every genre of Afrobeat. What’s more? I absolutely love the challenge of producing a track in a different genre with a Dancehall influence
