The Music Business Academy, MBA for Africa closed off module five of the program after two weeks of going in-depth to talk about Music Production 101. Module four was completed on the 28th of August, focusing on intellectual property and contracts. If you missed it, you can see some of the highlights here at Soot Africa.
Classes one and two were held on the 3rd and 4th of September 20022 while classes three and four were held on the 10th and 11th of September 2022. Let’s dive straight into the highlights.
The entire MBA for Africa module five was moderated by the icon Ikonekwuyasi – Music Producer and Sound Engineer.
Highlights of Class One, Module Five: Music Creation: Writing And Production
The faculty guests for this class were:
- Michelle Escoffery – President of PRS for Member’s Council & Trustee for PRS Foundation.
- Sons of Sonix – British-Nigerian Music Production Duo.
With so many songwriting legends in the room, the members of the 2022 cohort were excited to go into the details of song creation. This class focused on how to make your own creative process, one that works for you and gets all your creative juices flowing. The importance of this is not just to make a song but to make one that you connect to.
Additionally, the faculty stressed the importance of getting all your songwriting ideas out, whether good or bad. It was definitely one of the most interesting classes of the entire program. Thus, if you’re an aspiring artist or songwriter, this is one module you absolutely need to be a part of. This class further buttressed all the planning that goes on before recording a song that sells and appeals to the right target audience. Also, how to record in a way that shows the strengths of your voice, and so much more.

This class was moderated by Ikonekwuyasi, a Music Producer and Sound Engineer.
Have you ever thought about what goes on in the studio, behind the mic and sound boards? Then this class is for you. Firstly, it goes in-depth on the magic that goes into creating music and then the technicalities of mixing songs.

Highlights of MBA for Africa Module Five, Class Four: Preparing Music For Release And Marketing
The faculty guest for this class was:

Now, after recording a song that sounds just the way you intended, or even better, how do you go about releasing the song to the public? So, this class educated the cohort on this. Not just that, but also how to push and market the song on various platforms so it reaches the right audience for it.
