Kel-P Makes His Singing Debut On New EP, Bully Season Vol. 1

It’s Kel-P vibes!

Nigerian producer Kel-P makes his singing debut with a five-track EP titled Bully Season Vol 1. Before now, Kel-P was solely focused on music production, which he excels at. His undeniable talent contributed to hits like Burna Boy’s “Dangote” and Wizkid’s “Ghetto Love”. A couple of his projects have even gained international recognition with several Grammy nominations and wins.

It’s apparent that Kel-P is ready to widen his scope by trying his hand at singing. So far, it seems to be going great. His singing career started with the January 2023 release of “One More Night”, from his just-released EP.

If you’re as excited as I am to listen to this new EP, let’s head into  a track-by-track review of Bully Season Volume 1 by Kel-P

Kel-P’s Bully Season: Tales Of A Lovestruck Singer

Firstly, Bully Season starts out with Tropicana Baby. This is a love song with a steady tempo that starts out softly before the bass hits. Kel-P delivers a catchy chorus where he serenades his lover and tries to compel her to spend the night at his place. Tropicana Baby is a solid way to start the EP. Its brilliant production and even better vocal intonations basically tell us everything we need to know about Kel-P: He is here to stay.

Sundress might be my favorite song off this project. This is another song that sounds like a beautiful tribute to a lover. What really gets me is the chorus… “Only just us twooo my baby”. Who knew Kel-P could hold a note like that? Listening to this song made me imagine what a Yung L feature would sound like. In just two minutes and 35 seconds, Kel-P tells another love story, throws in some dancehall intonations, and finishes it up with a fire chorus that sounds so good I couldn’t help but stan. It really is Bully Season.

One More Night was released earlier in January. The song starts out with a sample from Nelly and Kelly Rowland’s hit song “Dilemma” and subsequently flows into a steady tempo with authentic Afro-fusion elements. Additionally, the instrumentals of “Dilemma” can be heard in the background of the song, supporting Kel-P’s powerful vocal intonations and smooth delivery.

Final Songs

The next song on Kel-P’s Bully Season is True Love, a song that is undeniably filled with raw, love-struck intensity. This song is already a crowd favorite, and its hook is one that captures the listener’s attention almost immediately. Plus, is it just me, or does Kel-P sound a lot like Don Jazzy on the chorus? Let us know what you think in the comment section!

Finally, Bully Season ends with Feel Lucky, another love song that maintains a slow and steady tempo, circling around to laid-back Afrobeats at its finest. Feel Lucky talks about feeling lucky because of all the love Kel-P feels from his lover. It also has solid sound production, which doesn’t come as a surprise.

Kel-P’s Bully Season is a project with heavy themes of love, which is an interesting angle to take on a debut album. However, he did not disappoint. On his social media page, Kel-P tells his fans,

“A lot of people asked me why I titled my EP Bully Season, but it’s only a reflection of my journey leading up until this moment: my wins, losses, relationships, and work ethic. You are your only competition and that’s why I bully myself for growth in all areas of my life.”

If there is a Bully Season Vol. 1, that can only mean there’s a Bully Season Vol. 2 somewhere around the corner, and I’m already excited about it.

You heard Kel-P, get ready for more great things to come… It’s Bully Season!
