The goated starboy has finally dropped his much anticipated album. Wizkid’s new album More Love Less Ego (MLLE) dropped on the 11th November after a pushback of the original release date. Of which fans were not too surprised about, Wizkid is known to tease and pushback release dates quite often. This is a review of Wizkid’s new album: More love less ego.
Money & Love starts out in the most sublime way. Not sure which i was more drawn to, the resonating claps or what Big Bad Wiz was talking about. He has his pocket full of money and a heart full of loving… so which is it? As for me… I’ll take both please. Without further ado, let’s head into a track by track review of Big Wiz’s 5th studio album. From the first listen, I can already tell Money & Love will be a crowd favorite.
Balance sounds like chill music you want to play in the background of a nightdrive. I couldn’t help but wonder what Burna would sound like on this track, a hit perhaps? Correct me if I’m wrong please.
More love less ego album body
You all already know this one. Bad to me was a pre-released tease of More Love Less Ego. You can’t miss those beautiful log drums, which Afrobeats is crazy about at the moment. I won’t lie, when I first heard Bad to me, it took a minute to grow on me. (I know, don’t come for me please). But after the first few times, I was singing to it in carpool karaoke with my friends in no time. It has an insane replay value and I doubt we’ll be getting tired of this song anytime soon.
The celestial being teams up with Big Wiz on this one. 2 Sugar starts out with Ayra Starr’s laid-back sonic infusions. I have to say the song sounds like Wizkid and Ayra Starr have been singing together for a while now. It comes naturally to them. The video for 2 Sugar is equally as riveting as the song itself and has already risen to #2 on the YouTube trending charts in just two days.

“Love liberates… It doesn’t just hold—that’s ego”. The next song on Wizkid’s new album, MLLE is Everyday, probably one of the most important songs on it. It’s what the entire message of this album is built around—more love, less ego. It speaks about a love that is liberating. Honestly, you shouldn’t try too hard to dissect the lyrics of this song as with most of Wizkid’s songs. Yes, they are catchy, and let’s just say he uses his poetic license as liberally as he can.
The spot-on features are coming in now. This song, Slip N Slide features Skillibeng & Shenseea and is exactly what the name sounds like. A steamy song about the ungodly activities that are better said in a song than out loud… if you know what I mean. You can look up the lyrics on this. But I’ll say, if you’re single, you should probably go ahead and skip this one. I almost got carried away with the vibe of the song itself and forgot to mention how well Shenseea and Skillibeng fuse with Wizkid’s sound. Or is it the other way around? Either way, it’s a great listen.
Tracklist for Wizkid’s new album More Love Less Ego
Deep brought back those afrobeat drums and instrumental influences that are common to Wizkid’s songs. In fact, there is a sample of Anoti at some point in the hook, which I didn’t hate. The saxophones and percussion came out to play too. They gave the perfect blend for a song that sounds like it’s being played at a laid-back Nigerian-themed party.
Flower Pads is one of my favorites. It’s a soft and sensual song that makes very good use of those drums once more. Wizkid’s hook sounds like his voice is just grazing the surface of your skin and the things he is saying are once more, better censored. Let’s just say he has a lot of plans for the Spanish woman who speaks at the end of this song… And we all know what they say about Spanish lovers.
I think it’s really amazing how well UK rap/dancehall blends so seamlessly with Afrobeats. Wow features Skepta and Naira Marley, an unexpected duo. And, they make a groovy song with a catchy hook you can’t help but love. I hope you can see I’m trying really hard to be unbiased with my review of More Love Less Ego here, but so far Starboy has made it worth the wait.
final songs on more love less ego
The first thing I noticed about Pressure was how much it sounded like Rema’s voice was going to pop up somewhere to give us a verse. Think we might be getting a remix from him anytime soon? I love how well Wizkid incorporates subtle amapiano infusions into his music without letting it alienate his sound altogether. It still sounds like the Wiz we know and love, just with a little extra. This was a good song, but it wasn’t one of my favorites.
Plenty loving is basically Wizkid telling his lover about all the plans he has for her. However, it is definitely on brand with all the love preached on Wizkid’s new album More Love Less Ego.
We have a Wizkid and Don Toliver song here with Special. Don Toliver starts out with an all too sublime chorus. After which Wizkid follows with his Big Wiz delivery. There were no drums on this one, and I had mixed feelings about it. While I loved it, I couldn’t help but notice how much I kept waiting for more beats to kick in and unify the slight afro-infusion sonic nuances I was getting.
Wizkid ends his new album with Frames (Who’s gonna know) which is another passionate cry to a lover. I love how we got a song where he holds a note and drawls it out, we don’t get enough of that. Looks like Wizkid made his new album for lovers out there. All he is preaching is love and we are his loyal followers. I think Big Bad Wiz certainly made several appearances on this album. I mean, what’s love without a bad boy to spice things up?
Final thoughts on MLLE
One thing is clear, the producers and sound engineers who worked on this album did exactly what they were supposed to do, almost to a point where some people are of the opinion that Wizkid’s delivery was predictable and the work that came from the soundboards was what made the album as good as it is.
I feel like Wiz gave us a lot of hits right from the start of the album. Also, I’ll say the features were probably not the most exciting. Most of the great songs on this album came from songs he sang alone. But overall, I think Wizkid’s new album More Love Less Ego is a work of art. Do you agree or do you beg to differ? Let me know what you think!
