Mightyyout

Mightyyout, the 8th wonder of the Talent Project

Mightyyout is a talented and powerful vocalist and songwriter from Rivers state, Nigeria who describes himself as a versatile and truthful artist. He also ascribes the inspiration for his art as one that comes from the soul, and his sound, he likens to water. Apart from his passion for music, he is also a great footballer.

Who is Mightyyout? I guess we’re about to find out.

He is what I’d describe as the Eight Wonder of the MBA Talent Project. Mightyyout is currently signed to the 8th company of the Music Business Academy for Africa, The Prime Agency, an all-female company.

How do you describe your art and genre?

Well, I really don’t know. I don’t like to box myself because the moment I say this is what I like to do it might change. Like, remember I said I was versatile? So you can hear me doing highlife…and be like wow. I like to say I’m like the waters, you know how freely the waters flow anywhere it goes. That’s how I like to see myself if I’m permitted to say that’s a genre.

When did you start your music career?

Well, I started music a long time ago, as far back as I can remember. Professionally, I started in 2015, that was like a different journey I took on, and right now it’s going… O ti lo [laughter]

…and what has been your motivation and your influence so far?

First of all, my lifestyle, I struggle with my pain, things I see around me, and life in the big universe inspire me a lot. I tend to read meaning and see through things and the big stuff. And then in the industry, a lot of things. I listen to everybody and everything that is good music. And I could take my inspiration from there and not realize it till I’m in the space to produce and I’ll be like oh this feeling is coming from what I heard two years ago,

I couldn’t agree more with Mightyyout. Pain can serve as a solid drive and motivation in channeling one’s creativity and abilities.

Which brings us to the next question. What is your creative process like? How does it come?

I’m more of a melodious person, he responds.

Okay, so the sound inspires you?

Yeah, it could just hit me deep down like my guy… You know music flows through my veins. Sometimes it doesn’t have to be lyrics or have words in it. It might just be sounds… some types of sounds that I don’t know where the origin is coming from.

And another thing is I like to be alone. I’m used to recording myself. I had to learn to record myself because most of the time I’m trying to make music and the producer working with me is slow… so I had to learn how to do these things myself so I can just go when I want to go and pause when I want to pause you know. Once I have the rhythm in my head, that’s the process for me. Once I have the rhythm, it’s cool. The lyrics can come later. I feel like the most important thing is how the tone comes. You know you could be in Nigeria and hear Indian music and you’ll not even know what they’re saying but the sound is speaking to you

Yeah, you are traveling through the sound. Yeah, that’s the type of person I am.

I am totally in sync with what Mightyyout just revealed. There are certain genres of music and foreign sounds you listen to and you just connect with them even without understanding the lyrics. In addition, sounds they say, travel round the world.

That’s great. how has your experience so far been at the MBA talent project?

Yeah, it has been wonderful trust me. Shout out to the other talents, they’re really amazing, in their different ways, and they’re all cool. It’s been really cool just getting to see characters, nice ones. And getting to see new stuff you know. Just wonderful, that’s just it.

So what’s next for you? What’s next for Mightyyout, what should we be expecting? Definitely something mighty.

Definitely a lot man, I won’t even kid you. Let’s just keep it this way.

[laughter]

No problem, let’s keep it boxed.

Yeah cause, Let’s box it for now. We can open it later.

[laughter]
