The Music Business Academy for Africa 2022 Wraps Up Module Two

The Music Business Academy for Africa finalized its second module on the 24th of July with more exciting and informative classes. In the quest to empower more industry leaders in the music business, MBA for Africa has yet again left the cohorts more knowldgeable after another successful module.

The academy started module two last week, with a total of four classes in the module. This module particularly focused on Industries of the music business. The focus in the previous week was on the publishing industry and the recording industry. You can find some of the highlights here

This week was even more interesting. All the information left the students buzzing with so much excitement, eager to learn even more.

It looks like everyone that has been a part of this program so far has caught the fire for the music business academy in Africa.

Highlights from Module Two (part two)

The Music Business Academy for Africa. Module Two: Class three: The Live Music Industry

The faculty guests for this class were: 

  • Founder and CEO of Afrochella Festival and Culture Management group – AbdulKarim Abdullah.
  • Talent collaborator, promoter and live events producer – Kim Sebuliba.

This class focused on the live music industry, one of the most chaotic industries in the music business. This has to do with live shows, touring, live bands and the likes. In order to be ready to pull off successful event after successful event, you absolutely need to be equipped with the right information. This class did just that, educated the students on the due processes and licenses involved in the live music industry.

Additionally, there was enlightenment on funding, partnerships, booking, show promoting… every single aspect of the live music industry was covered.

The Music Business Academy for Africa. Module Two, Class four: The Interactive Industry (Sync placements and opportunities in the Digital Industry)

The interactive industry, while still an industry that is yet to be fully explored, holds so much potential for the music industry. The students learnt about this, and much more. 

The faculty guests were:

  • Head of training at Music Ally – Kushal Patel.
  • General manager, Digital Music Commerce and Exchange Ltd & COO of AmplifiHub – Olayinka Ezeikel.

The highlights of this class were on the right positioning for synchronization deals and of course, copyrights and licensing. The students were given step by step awareness on what sync rights entail. Also, how these rights come in to play in the interactive industry.

Additionally, the conversation was centered around all the unexplored opportunities for artists within the metaverse and gaming space. So much has been done, but there is even much more to be done. This was a class the cohorts found particularly interesting, bringing us the future with music and tech.
