5 Male & Female Afrobeats Duets That Remain Timeless

Afrobeats, a genre known for its infectious rhythms and vibrant melodies, has produced some unforgettable collaborations that continue to resonate with local and international audiences. In this article, we’ll explore five timeless male and female Afrobeats duets that have not only stood the test of time but have also warmed our hearts with their unique blend of talent and chemistry.

Soldier – Simi X Falz: A Timeless Afrobeats Duet

I remember the first time I heard this song. I chuckled with amusement and delight. It was the perfect blend of witty lyrics with an infectious tune. “Soldier” is certainly a classic Afrobeats duet that brought together the soulful Simi and the witty Falz.

Released in 2016, the song chiefly tells a captivating love story with a military twist. Simi’s emotive vocals paired with Falz’s clever rap verses create a perfect harmony that captures the essence of the narrative. The track’s success lies not only in its catchy melody but also in the chemistry between Simi and Falz, making “Soldier” a timeless gem in the Afrobeats catalog. Let’s take a look.

Girlie o Remix – Tiwa Savage X Patoranking.

Just when we thought it couldn’t be done, Tiwa Savage made a great song even better. Tiwa Savage, often referred to as the “Queen of Afrobeats,” joined forces with the talented Patoranking to create the remix of “Girlie o.”

Originally a solo effort by Patoranking, the remix, released in 2014, added a whole new dimension to the song. Tiwa Savage’s sultry vocals also complement Patoranking’s reggae-influenced style, resulting in a captivating and infectious Afrobeats duet. “Girlie o Remix” certainly remains a fan favorite, showcasing the seamless collaboration between two of Afrobeats’ brightest stars.

One Naira – Waje and MI

Still one of my favorite Afrobeats duets of all time. Waje and MI Abaga, collaborated on the emotional masterpiece “One Naira.” Released in 2010, the song explores the theme of love and sacrifice. Waje’s soulful delivery and MI’s thought-provoking rap verses create a beautiful synergy, making “One Naira” a timeless ballad that continues to tug at the heartstrings of listeners, including me.

Essence – Wizkid and Tems: The Grammy-Winning Afrobeats Duet

Our Grammy-winning song, Essence had to make it to the list of timeless Afrobeats duets to remember. Essence remains a standout track from Wizkid’s critically acclaimed album “Made in Lagos” (2020). The song’s dreamy production and Tems’ unique vocals, combined with Wizkid’s signature Afro-fusion sound, create an ethereal experience. “Essence” has not only become a chart-topping hit but also a symbol of the genre’s evolution and international appeal.

Surrender – Mr Eazi and Simi

Simi once more makes it to our list of best male and female Afrobeats duets. Mr Eazi and Simi collaborated on the soul-stirring “Surrender,” featured on Mr Eazi’s “Lagos to London” mixtape (2018).

The song explores themes of love and vulnerability, with Simi’s melodic voice perfectly complementing Mr Eazi’s laid-back delivery. The duo’s chemistry is palpable, and “Surrender” stands out as a testament to the power of collaboration in creating timeless Afrobeats magic.

These five male and female Afrobeats duets, from the narrative-driven “Soldier” to the globally embraced “Essence,” have left an indelible mark on the genre. Through their unique blend of talent, storytelling, and musical synergy, these collaborations have not only kept us warm over the years but have also contributed to the global recognition and appreciation of Afrobeats as a dynamic and influential musical genre.
